TNPSC recruits candidates for Group 1, 2, 3 and 4 services. A number of vacancies arise every year and the selected candidates get placed in different departments.

Selection of candidates is done through written examination. Written examination for various TNPSC exams includes questions from General English. General English is an optional subject. General English is included in many competitive exams to analyze the candidates’ knowledge of English Grammar, vocabulary and to test their verbal skills. The questions are framed from English literature and are purely based on Tamil Nadu Samacheer Kalvi syllabus. The syllabus for general English comprises of English Grammar, Prose and Poetry.
